Jafar Khan, Pyar Khan and Basat Khan were brothers who played the rabab and sursringar and are said to be descendants of Tansen's son Bilas Khan. Jafar Khan is credited with developing the sursringar from the rabab. Pyar Khan was also a vocalist and knew many compositions of the Seni tradition. Pyar Khan spent time in several native states like Rewa, Betiah, Tonk, and Avadh. He had never married and taught his nephews Bahadur Sen, Sadiq Ali, and Ali Mohammad Khan.
