Maharajas Anand Kishore and Nawal Kishore Singh were great patrons of the arts and under them a school of dhrupad singing flourished in Betiah an erstwhile state in the Western Champaran district of North Bihar. They wrote texts of dhrupads which were sung by singers of the tradition. The Anand Sar of Maharaja Anand Kishore lists the texts of dhrupads of Betiah.
